can be somewhat "dry" when it comes to scenery and attentional to detail with either default airports or landmark areas in the virtual world. One of the easiest ways to improve on the default is to download and install third party add-ons such as replacement airports, mesh scenery or terrain resolution enhancements.

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-03v17M9AI_Q/Ta9WhB2HusI/AAAAAAAAABU/PTXBX_trba4/s1600/lisbon-aerosoft-scenery.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; mainly because it has been developed for sale and customers paying for the product expect a "better" product when they pay for it. However, there are may freeware packages that have been created by avid flight sim developers that are just as good - it's just finding them.

You can download freeware scenery over at Fly Away Simulation, while their sister store SimShack.net sell many payware scenery titles.

Freeware CLS Piper Arrow now at SimShack.net

<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; Here is an example of one of these packs.

New 767 200/300 Series SP - Just Flight has released a second service pack for the 767- 200/300 Series. This new pack contains several fixes including fixes or updates for the fuel consumption, 2D cockpit, the sounds for all engine variants, and cargo door operations when the engines are off. The pack is available to download from the support section of their website.

New section on their website - As releases come thick and fast, several customers have mentioned to JF that it would be helpful if they could put their latest releases together in one place on the website. AirTrafficAtlanta.com, an FAA-approved and National Air Traffic Controllers-endorsed website, was established as ATCMonitor.com in September 2000, one year after Hartsfield-Jackson officially became the world's busiest airport in terms of both passenger count and number of flights.

C208B GRAND CARAVAN HD SERIES

Carenado has released the C208B GRAND CARAVAN HD SERIES for FSX. A close descendant of the Sikorsky Firefly may well be what we would be flying everyday to work or leisure in the near future. The Firefly will be the first electric helicopter in history, offering up to 91% efficiency (as opposed 26% on a typical internal-combustion engine), ultra-low noise levels, and zero-emission.

The Firefly is a demonstrator based on the old Hughes S-300 and fitted with a 190hp electric motor and powered by lithium-ion batteries. The expected endurance is only 15 minutes but will improve exponentially as new batteries (possibly lithium-air anodeless) push the flying time to over 3 hours and beyond. RC Helicopter flyers will note that the 15 minutes flight duration is about the same as the average electric RC helicopter - also running on lithium (polymer) batteries. This PRE-Flight model of this soon-to-make-history aircraft is full of accurate detail - even to the sound of the almost whisper-quiet electric motor.

CLS 767 SP3 Available

Commercial Level Simulations is pleased to announce that Service Pack 3 for their Boeing 767 is now available in the downloads section of the CLS website.

FSWidgets iGMap for iPhone 1.1

FSWidgets has released Version 1.1 of their moving map application for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Then another smaller city, Sestri Levante, was added, with all its tipicals buildings.... Well, two cities, it's ok. But why not to add the photoreal for the entire region? It's all that they did in this scenery. The area is large, and very interesting to visit, one of the beautiest italian coastline and Genova one of the most important harbour, industrial and civil. The scenery is for FSX SP2 at a resolution of 2m/pixel, except Genova, at 1m/pixel.

Autogen has been done only for Genova city (pretty large), instead Sestri Levante has got all custom objects, all the buildings have their own textures. You can fly also in the night, and flying above Genova in the night is a beautiful experience. Only the summer season though. The airport of Genova, LIMJ, has been totally customized, with custom 3D objects. For OZx, the performances are important, expecially when you fly above a complex scenery like this. And for this, they worked hard trying to obtain the best performances so you can really enjoy the scenery.

Latest Releases From Aerosoft

Cuzco X - Aerosoft released a dangerous and exciting airport, Aeropuerto Alejandro Velasco Astete Intl, also known as "Cuzco airport" is well known as one of the most challenging airports in the world. Just go to YouTube and you will find enough videos to proof that point.

The combination of high altitude (10.800 feet) hot summers, mountain weather conditions and the lack of navigation aids will make you sit up and pay attention with every landing. The high end scenery includes a detailed manual appendix on high altitude operations and a mission to show how the complex landing procedure is flown. The city and immediate surrounding are also included.

Koz X - The Greek island Kos is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Aegean. Kos International Airport "Hippocrates" is situated in an idyllic atmosphere, directly by the sea and between two ridges. It is particularly approached by European charter airlines during the summer.

The airport is a faithful copy of all original airport buildings. Accommodated landclasses, coastlines, and a detailed mesh for the entire island ensure that the airport is beautifully embedded in the countryside. The Royal Aircraft Factory's S.E.5A is one of the best known and most successful fighter planes of the First World War. S.E.5A - Legends of Flight is a fantastic re-creation for Flight Simulator X that has been painstakingly put together and raises the bar for WW1 aircraft simulation.

The S.E.5A was built around the Hispano-Suiza and Wolseley Viper engines and it reached combat units in significant numbers from June 1917 onwards. Many of the most famous aces of the period including Ball, Mannock and McCudden were S.E.5A pilots and there were over 2,700 in service by the end of the hostilities.

The simulation includes nine aircraft to pilot in five versions with Hispano or Wolseley engines and two-blade and four-blade propellers. Exacting detail inside and out even includes modelled rivets and stitching on the fuselage.

Each aircraft has unique markings and features a fully animated pilot, opening gun hatch and a Lewis gun which swings down on its Foster mount. All rigging is accurately modelled, including the RAF aerodynamic rigging wire and round flying wires, bottle screws and fittings. A unique technique provides a 'canvas' texture to the exterior finish and carefully researched colours have been applied in such a way as to replicate the unusual 'colour change' effect of the paint used on the S.E.5A. Inspection windows in the wings and tail reveal the pulley gear for the control wires to ailerons and elevator. Radiator shutters on the Viper variant operate from the cockpit and detail includes bungee cord 'suspension', correct Palmer AeroCord tyres and even tyre valves in the wheel covers.

Ship of Dreams from PRE-Flight RC Simulator

PRE-Flight RC Simulator has announced the release of PRE-Flight Titanic Scenery for free download. The "Ship of Dreams", the RMS Titanic, is the most famous ship in history. The largest passenger ship of the time, she departed England on her maiden voyage on the 10th April 1912, and sank after hitting an iceberg resulting in the loss of 1,517 people.

The PRE-Flight Titanic model is full-scale (269 meters long), high-quality (345874 polygons) and attempts to accurately depicts the Titanic on her fateful voyage from her bronze propellers, thru the 9 highly-detailed decks (some decks with realistic wooden plank texture), and to the pennants that she was flying on the day she sank. It contains details like the brass bell that the lookout used to signal the approach of the fatal iceberg, the radio transmitter wiring, even a genuine Titanic-style lounge chair. The PRE-Flight Titanic Scenery is 3 scenries in 1. The first where the Titanic model is stationary for detailed exploring. The second scenery has the Titanic running at cruising speed and grazing an iceberg. And lastly, the 3rd scenery has the Titanic sinking. This release also makes available an updated version of PRE-Flight's UFO which makes an excellent camera platform to explore the Titanic. Any PRE-Flight aircraft can also be flown in the scenery.

For more information and free download visit PRE-Flight RC Simulator's website.

UK2000 VFR Airfields Volume3 Released

UK2000 VFR Airfields Volume3 includes 73 airfields in the northern part of the UK. TEN distinct models and TWENTY highly detailed texture sets provide wide coverage of many of this famous helicopter's variants and users. The all-new VC is bursting with nice details, such as a fully-functioning hover gauge, a drift indicator, mousable radios and a completely modelled rear cabin area. FSX Acceleration users will find that the winch works to order and can be used to carry objects. A wonderful TSS sounds package provides a highly realistic audio dynamic, both inside and out. Carefully-tuned flight dynamics make the Sea King a delight to fly, with nimble agility at low speed and safe stability at cruise. The systems are kept to a minumum, just start and fly, so novice FSX users and those new to rotorcraft will have no trouble in getting into the air in the Virtavia Sea King .

FSWidgets Network Pack Utility Updated

FSWidgets has updated its free Network Pack utility which now includes support for the iGMap iPhone moving map application. Says Bryan York, FS2Crew's developer: "I designed a version of FS2Crew for the LDS 767 several years ago. It was very popular. However, since that time, FS2Crew has made numerous advances, most notably of which is that we now use Voice Control as the primary interface method for our airline crew simulations." Bryan continues: "The new Voice Commander Edition for the Level-D 767 allows users to simulate airline style flying from the perspective of the Captain/ Pilot Flying with their Level-D 767. Everything about this product is 767 specific, and the procedures modeled are rooted in those used by a real-world UK based carrier. If you're in the market for multi-crew simulation software for FSX and FS9, it doesn't get much more realistic than this." Each add-on aircraft has been carefully modeled based on archive material in order to conform as closely as possible to the real-world X-15 when NASA pilot Joe Walker set an altitude record of 354,200 feet in the No. 3 aircraft, the highest flight of the X-15 research program.
The X-15-1 rocket aircraft package comes with a recreation of the original X-15-1-2/3 100-page flight manual including a 20-page VC manual supplement (English and French), allowing test pilots to accurately follow startup and system checks from the real-world X-15 manuals. The flight manuals are available as a free download to allow people interested in the X15 program to read through the procedures and systems used to achieve M 4 .

The set is available on CD-ROM or download , for complete details, including screenshots, visit the Xtreme Prototypes Website.

Sky Blue Radio Under New Management

Richard Rudd - Station Manager for Sky Blue Radio since it was born over three years ago stepped down late last week and named Jeff Turner the new owner and Station Manager for Sky Blue Radio effective immediately. With a population of nearly 8000, Kosrae is the most eastern of the Caroline Islands, Federated States of Micronesia. The island is located 370 mi (590 km) north of the equator, between Guam and the Hawaiian Islands. Its land area is 42 mi² (110 km²). Kosrae has high mountains that is largely unspoiled and rarely visited. Kosrae is fast becoming a destination for scuba divers, hikers and tourists. Dense vegetation and steep mountains keep the island largely undeveloped. Viewed from the sea, the island's distinct shape resembles a female body. This has led to the island being called "the island of the sleeping lady."

Kosrae International airport, located on the northwestern coast of the island, is served by Continental Micronesia Airline's "Island Hopper" flights (three times a week in each direction) between Hawaii and Guam, stopping at other FSM and Marshallese destinations on the way. Specifically, the "island hopper" employs the venerable B737-800 (and the occassional B767-300) which usually begins in each direction (from Honolulu and Guam) via Majuro and Kwajelain atolls (Republic of Marshall Islands), Kosrae, Pohnpei and Chuuk (Federated States of Micronesia). Once a month tourists also arrive on an chartered B727 including weekly freight runs by DHL and Fedex.

Solar Impulse Aircraft from Pre-Flight

PRE-Flight RC Simulator has announced the release of PRE-Flight Solar Impulse for free download. The Solar Impulse made the first overnight flight by a manned solar-powered plane on July 8 2010. This plane was piloted by André Borschberg - Swiss businessman, pilot, and co-founder of the Solar Impulse project.

This amazing technological marvel has a wingspan of 63.4 meters but weighed just 1600 kg and is powered by 4 x 7.5kw motors. It can cruise at 70 kph and has a theoretically unlimited range due to its over 11,628 solar cells. The Solar Impulse will be known in history as the pioneer in solar-powered manned flight.

PRE-Flight model has actually 2 models in one - a humongous 1/4 scale model (15.85m wingspan) and a smaller 1/16th scale model of the historical aircraft. It features movable controls, realistic solar cell arrays on its wings and "toothpick" outriggers and main landing gear which operate faithfully.

For free download, visit PRE-Flight's website.

X-Aviation Releases Cessna 152 for X-Plane

X-Aviation is pleased to announce the Cessna 152 as their latest product release. Aerosoft tells us that Stefan Hoffmann has made a flying measuring tape. Aerosoft Scala is an 'aircraft' you can slew around to measure things. If you are a scenery designer contact Aerosoft at support@aerosoft.com and they'll get you a free copy.

AES 2.07 Released - Mainly because there were new airports to cover but there is also a nice new feature that allows you to control AES remotely, something that was requested a lot. Check out the Release Notes for all new airports but the highlights are Aerosoft's Andras Field, Mega Airport Munich, Mega Airport Amsterdam, Rotterdam X, Larnaca X, Barcelona X, Santorini X.

Wasserkuppe X For Free - While going over old files in dusty corners of the office Aerosoft found the Wasserkuppe scenery for FS2004. And they missed it for FSX because they now have a superb glider but not the most famous glider airfield in the world, Wasserkuppe where gliding was more or less invented. It's located on top of a hill. sloped runway in a stunning setting. so LimeSim and Aerosoft worked together to bring this airfield in FSX and guess what, it's free. A gift from Aerosoft to you. Soon you can also fly aerobatics with a glider.

Antalya X - Aerosoft has a habit of releasing holiday related scenery in summer and this year will be no different. They've got ex-RAF and Commercial Instructors on hand to give talks and they will also have Tom Main from Flight1 in the USA with them to talk to people about Ultimate Traffic 2 and flight simulation development in general. The schedule for the talks is as follows:

11:30 Aircraft performance
12:30 Aircraft icing
13:30 Flying Hawks for the RAF
14:30 Flying with EFIS/Garmin 1000

Don't forget they will also have VATSIM, RAFsim, RC Simulations, Dodosim and Alpine Computers on hand to chat with you and show you the very latest developments. Literally millions of frame rate friendly autogen trees as far as the eye can see and way beyond. Treescapes UK uses exceptionally accurate data provided by the Ordinance Survey. The data is the very latest available providing every forest, woodland, copse and small cluster of tree vegetation depicted in OS mapping today. Also including brand new High Resolution colour balanced tree textures as an optional extra which will compliment your VFR photographic scenery and that are designed to reflect the vegetation found in the United Kingdom.

"Treescapes UK" is by far the largest scale project that Earth Simulations has undertaken to date as an independent developer of Flight Simulation add-ons. It is the first time Autogen has been placed with this level of accuracy on such a scale...but of course the desire to populate the United Kingdom photographic scenery with accurately placed 3D objects has always been their goal, and is the driving force behind Earth Simulations unyielding commitment to advancing realism in your Flight Simulator. Treescapes UK represents a major step forward.

Virtavia B-1B Lancer For FSX

Virtavia has released their B-1B Lancer. a year in the making and is a very comprehensive package.
